Rome, capital city of Italy with a history stretching back over 2,500 years ...

Rome was reputedly founded in 753 BC by Romulus and was the seat of power of the etruscan kings until the last one was overthrown about 250 years later. The Roman Republic was then born. The city was developed by the subsequent Emperors as the Roman Empire extended its influence throughout Europe. This has left a legacy of spectacular ruins that you will experience on your Rome Treasure or scavenger hunt.

But Rome isn't just about the Romans and archeology. It has been nicknamed 'the Capital of the World' owing to the influence on western civilisation. A millennium after the Roman Empire had gone, Rome was a major centre of the arts and education. This influence has continued up to the present day, for example, after leaving the Papal palace in Avignon in the 14th century, the Popes have resided in Rome; the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church was established as a state in Rome in 1929 with the building of the Vatican City, a walled enclave within Rome itself. Rome was subject to a rapid and huge expansion after the second world war. In the 1950s, the treaty of Rome established the EEC and it serves as the HQ of several humanitarian worldwide organisations. Rome hosted the Olympic Games in 1960 and is a major film-making centre with the celebrated Cinecittà Studios producing classics such as Quo Vadis and Ben Hur. It still has a global influence on world politics, fashion and business, making it a great place of a corporate event.

The buildings today are a fascinating blend of the old and new and hide many answers to the treasure hunt clues.
