Try an Oxford walking or driving Treasure Hunt for Team Building, Corporate Entertainment, Stag and Hen events
Another one of our great venues for a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt - explore the University City of Oxford on foot or by car. Our treasure hunts will take you to the most popular parts of Oxford, as well as some of the lesser known but equally fascinating, places.
Occupation of the place known now as Oxford can be traced back to the Anglo-Saxons at a point where the rivers could be forded. The two rivers that flow through Oxford are the Cherwell and the Thames, the latter is named the Isis in the vicinity of Oxford. The town is probably best known for being the seat of the oldest English speaking university, with University College, Balliol and Merton being established in the middle of the 13th century. 16th century Tudor Oxford was a troubled place. Henry VIII was a staunch Anglican and made fundamental changes to the University. His daughter, Mary was a staunch Catholic and did her best to undo her Dad's work. To be a leader in the Anglican Church during her reign was not a particularly good thing to be as you tended to end your days tied to a stake with a fire raging around you! The scorch marks from the fire used to burn Bishops Latimer and Ridley can still be seen on the doors of Balliol College.
In the 20th century, it was noted for the Morris car factory at Cowley which produced the iconic Morris Minor. Under British Leyland, the factory became uneconomic and eventually closed.
The architecture of Oxford is spectacular and endlessly fascinating. It has been made familiar through the hugely popular Inspector Morse and spin-off Lewis TV detective series and also in the Harry Potter films (which used Christ Church College for some of the location work).
