Manchester - perfect location for a treasure hunt, the ship canal, beguiling buildings, quite a successful football club and of course Coronation Street!Coronation Street and Manchester are inextricably linked, but there is so much more to Manchester than that - as you will find out on our Manchester treasure hunt. A great corporate team building day out, corporate entertainment or simply a group of friends on a Stag or Hen event. The Roman commander Agricola is credited with the first Roman settlement in the Manchester region, building a wooden fort overlooking the confluence of the rivers Irwell and Medlock on the road from York to Chester. This is marked now by modern day Salford. Over the next 300 years a stone fort was developed, complete with the attendant civilian settlers, at what became Castlefield. The site has been excavated and there is a visitor centre, tour guides and a reconstruction of the North Gate. The site became less and less important after the Romans and was merely a district of Salford in the middle ages. Manchester started to gain in importance with the development of a textile industry, towards the end of that time. Probably the major contributor to the success of Manchester was the building of the canals, which enabled the import of raw materials and export of completed goods. But hey, no more or there will be nothing left for you to discover on our Manchester hunt! Manchester's best know arts connection is probably L. S. Lowry, producer of the famous matchstick men scenes from everyday life in Manchester. Our manchester scavenger hunt could take you through the heart of Lowry country, so not only will it be great team building, but also educational too!
