Jack the Ripper Theme London (Whitechapel and Spitalfields East End) Walking Treasure Hunt
Another top location for a stag, hen or corporate treasure hunt - London's East End. Explore on foot the places where possibly the most famous serial killer, Jack the Ripper, operated in the capital city of the UK, London. He wasn't the first but he has probably become the most well known as he was the first to appear in a large city which had a press pack who made it seem like he was the first plus a literate population ready and willing to be terrified by the reports.
Go back in time to Victorian London - to the second half of 1888 in fact, to the time that Jack the Ripper (also referred to - less graphically - as the 'Whitechapel Murderer') was carrying out his series of grisly murders. Overcrowding and poverty in the East End of London caused many women to turn to prostitution, several of whom became the victims of this serial killer. Jack the Ripper was never caught. The majority of the murders attributed to him (or could it have been a her?) took place in the last few months of 1888 but there were a few in the subsequent 3 years. It is generally accepted that there were 5 victims of the Ripper, with the final murder victim, Mary Jane Kelly, being found on 9/11/1888 although there could be up to a further 6, bringing the total to 11. Despite a massive police operation, including door to door enquiries and raids on slum housing, where the areas low life resided, Jack the Ripper was never caught.
In 2006, Scotland Yard's violent crime unit studied witness statements and came up with a photofit face of Jack the Ripper, maybe you saw the Channel 5 programme?
Our Jack the Ripper treasure hunt takes you around the Spitalfields and Whitechapel area where the Ripper operated, places like the Hoop and Grapes, reputed to be London's oldest surviving pub which has 13th century foundations, Spitalfields Market, the Ten Bells Pub which may have been frequented by the victims ... But to find out more, contact us now!
The nearest tube station is Aldgate and we would suggest that the Dickens Inn is a convenient start and finish venue, but the treasure hunt can be run from any other venue in the vicinity.
