Cambridge walking or driving Treasure Hunt for Team Building, Corporate Entertainment, Stag and Hen events

Whenever one thinks of Cambridge, it is usually in association with Oxford, and with the boat race in particular, however the city can be traced back further than is rival and it is equally well graced with high achievers. Whatever the past, in the present it is a perfect venue for a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt . Our treasure hunts will take you to the most popular parts of Cambridge, as well as some of the lesser known but equally fascinating, places.

This area of East Anglia has been settled since the late bronze age, there is archaeological evidence that a tribe was resident on Castle Hill during the Iron age. However, the main development took place when the Romans invaded Britain. Castle Hill was a logical place to establish a defensive force. It also marked the point where the Roman Road, the Via Devana, crossed the Cam. Roman remains can be seen all around the area.

Cambridge under the Anglo-Saxons declined but was revitalised by the arrival of the Vikings, who set up a trading settlement on the right bank of the river, now called the Quayside. The Normans gave Cambridge its Castle, back on the earlier settlement of Castle Hill. The university was established early in the 13th century by academics fleeing hostilities in Oxford, maybe that is the root cause of the competition between the two! The oldest surviving college is Peterhouse College, built towards the end of the 13th century, slightly later than the Oxford colleges. But probably the best known of the colleges is King's with its celebrated Chapel, built over a period of a hundred years, spanning the 15th and 16th centuries. Why is it so well known? TV of course - the Christmas Eve service with Carols from King's College Chapel are watched by millions around the world. For those interested in architecture, the largest fan vault ceiling in the world is found here.

With all this history, and its proximity to London, Cambridge is an ideal place for a treasure hunt. You may even find out about Hobson's choice whilst you are there ...
