Spanish Treasure Hunt, Malaga...

Malaga - a top location in the sun for a team building or private treasure hunt - explore southern Spain.

The Spanish region of Andalucia has been settled since prehistoric times and the great seafarers the Phoenicians established trading posts throughout the Mediterranean region. In 1100BC they founded what is the now the Spanish port of Cadiz, making it probably the oldest seaport in Europe, if not the world.

The Phoenicians were subsequently followed into the region over the centuries by the Celts, Greeks and Carthaginians. The Carthage Empire was overthrown by the Romans so they were the next in! They developed it as Betis and developed it as one of their richest and best organised colonies. Spanish olive oil and wine was exported to Rome. The Romans brought Christianity to Spain. After the end of the Roman empire, suffered under the incursions of the barbaric northern European tribes, eventually the supremacy of the Visgoths reigned.

Following the chaos of the Visgoths, the Moors invaded Spain and permanently marked it with their cultural legacy, leaving monuments such as the Mosque of Cordoba and the Alhambra Palace in Granada. The moors were eventually driven out by the end of the 15th century, the Catholic Monarchs, Isabel of Castille and Ferdinand of Aragon. The age of exploration and expansionism began - Seville became the main port for the imports of gold from the New World during the 16th and 17th centuries.
